Held at the SRIS International Conference (Sustainability and Resilience International Scientific Conference) hosted by the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) in Gyöngyös, the “What next? – The challenges of resilience in tourism” session featured a presentation by Dr. Hajnalka Izsák and Dr. Ferenc Szilágyi. Their research examined how tourism enterprises in the Partium region have bounced back from the pandemic, focusing on the effects of COVID–19 and the Ukraine conflict on local economies. They highlighted how border proximity, thermal resources, and mountainous destinations influence regional adaptability.
During the talk, the presenters noted that while many tourism indicators in 2023 already surpassed pre-pandemic levels, labor shortages and rising operational costs remain critical hurdles. They emphasized that coordinated development initiatives, cross-border collaborations, and robust digital and infrastructural investments will be essential for strengthening the sector in the coming years.
