On the occasion of World Social Work Day, the Department of Social Sciences at PCU honored the helping profession with a special professional day. The event, held on March 18, focused on professional development and community experience.

Social work is not merely a profession but a commitment and a journey of continuous learning. This concept was the central theme of this year's World Day event, which engaged students, faculty, and practicing professionals alike through its diverse range of programs.

The day opened with a heartfelt devotional led by Abigél Szomor, PCU’s chaplain, reminding attendees of the inner resources required for helping work and the importance of empathy. Following this, dr. Levente Székedi, Head of Department, welcomed the participants, emphasizing the sustaining power of university education and the professional community. Providing international and regional context, Claudia Torje, President of the Bihor County branch of the Romanian National College of Social Workers, greeted the conference via an online session, highlighting the significance of professional solidarity.

The morning’s central theme was the mental health and professional reflection of caregivers. During an interactive lecture by Kincső Kocsis —social worker, trainer, and supervisor— participants learned exactly what supervision entails and why it is an essential tool for burnout prevention and high-quality performance.

The afternoon session turned toward the creative and practical sides of social work:

  • Art and Social Work: The Kandake café was introduced as an example of how community space, aesthetics, and social responsibility can be intertwined.
  • Elderly Care in a New Light: Zsóka Kondor, Granny project coordinator and mental health specialist, spoke about the beauty and challenges of working with the elderly, bringing a fresh perspective to the field.

The day concluded with the harmony of body and soul. Under the guidance of Noémi Toth, participants explored the world of dance therapy. The "Support in Motion!" section proved how vital non-verbal expression and the liberating power of movement can be in the helping process.

The event once again confirmed: the strength of social work lies in solidarity and unwavering respect for human dignity. We thank all speakers and participants for honoring the celebration of this profession with their presence!
