The selection covers the interval between 1978-1987, featuring the writing and the reception of Fermor's second masterpiece, Beween the Woods and the Water, which relates Fermor's walk through Hungary and Transylvania in the early 1930s. The correspondence reflects Fermor's tormenting quest for accuracy and Fischer's generous support for accomplishing it.
